Many people get into a home based business because they want todo what they love. Yet, there are a number of things in having ahome based business that makes it more of a business than apleasure. Yet there are some simple rules to follow that canmake your home based business more enjoyable even in the hardertimes.
First rule of home based business success: there is nothing sobad that it won’t look better tomorrow. Scarlet O’Hara said itbest that “Tomorrow is another day.” Many times you will feellike you are just sitting still and not getting anywhere. Don’tgive up and be patient. Each day you work hard will make it alittle better, and things are sometimes clearer in the morning.
Second rule of home based business success: keep who you are outof what your business is. That means keep your personal identityseparate from your business identity. Many people who love whatthey do become so enmeshed in the work that there is noseparating one from the other. We all need to find thingsoutside of our jobs to give us a sense of self-worth. This way,if things get stymied or difficult, your happiness doesn’t gowith it.
Third rule of home based business success: “I think I can. Ithink I can,” should become your mantra. We all see theroadblocks in front of us, but remember that there is alwaysanother route. Don’t let others’ limitations stop you from yourgoals. And for that matter, don’t let your own self-imposedlimitations stop you. Think of another way to do it. Takecontrol of your business - don’t let it control you.
Fourth rule of home based business success: set realisticexpectations and really think about what you want. Ever heardthe saying, “be careful what you wish for”? If you set a goalmake sure it is really what you want. Sometimes we set goalsthat we think we should want, and then we get there and don’tknow what to do with the result.
Fifth rule of home based business success: stand by yourdecisions. After all, who knows your business needs better thanyou? No one. Sometimes a lot of things happen that make yousecond guess yourself, even though you are making a greatdecision. Learn to drown out the extra noise and distractions sothat you know you are making the best decision for your businessto reach the goals you really want.
